Carolyn Daniels-Krupp, LMSW

DBT Therapist / Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Do intense emotions sometimes feel difficult to manage? For teens and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, mood instability, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or other difficulties with emotional regulation, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can provide practical skills for navigating emotions, relationships, and stressful situations.

Carolyn Daniels-Krupp, LMSW, is a Linehan Board-Certified DBT clinician with extensive experience working with adolescents and adults. Her approach combines evidence-based treatment with a supportive and validating environment where clients can learn practical skills for managing difficult emotions and building a life that feels more stable and meaningful.

About Carolyn Daniels-Krupp, LMSW

Carolyn earned bachelor’s degrees in sociology and psychology and a master’s degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University. She has more than two decades of clinical experience, including work in community mental health and long-term care settings.

Carolyn works with adolescents ages 12 and older as well as adults experiencing emotional, behavioral, and relationship challenges.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Carolyn is certified by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification. DBT is an evidence-based treatment originally developed for individuals experiencing significant difficulties with emotional regulation and has since been applied to a variety of mental health concerns.

DBT focuses on helping people develop practical skills in four primary areas:

  • Mindfulness — increasing awareness of thoughts, emotions, and experiences in the present moment
  • Emotion regulation — understanding emotions and developing healthier ways of responding to them
  • Distress tolerance — coping with difficult situations and intense emotions without making the situation worse
  • Interpersonal effectiveness — communicating needs, setting boundaries, and navigating relationships more effectively

Carolyn helps clients learn and practice DBT skills in a structured and supportive environment. Families looking specifically for adolescent DBT services can learn more about DBT for teens at Kalamazoo Child & Family Counseling.

DBT Skills Groups

Carolyn facilitates structured, skills-focused DBT groups designed to help participants learn and practice concrete strategies for managing emotions, tolerating distress, improving relationships, and responding more effectively to difficult situations.

Skills groups focus on learning and practicing DBT skills rather than requiring participants to disclose personal experiences to the group. This structured format can make participation feel more approachable for people who may be hesitant about traditional group therapy.

Clinical Interests

Carolyn’s clinical interests and areas of experience include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Mood disorders
  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Trauma and post-traumatic stress
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Non-suicidal self-injury
  • Borderline personality disorder
  • Grief and loss
  • Substance use concerns

DBT for Adolescents Who Need More Support

Some adolescents need more support than traditional weekly outpatient therapy can provide. Kalamazoo Child & Family Counseling also offers an Adolescent DBT Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for teens who may benefit from a more intensive level of structured mental health treatment.
