Group Therapy

Why Group Therapy?

When a therapist can create a safe space for teens and kids to unite and truly be themselves, it becomes a powerful tool to facilitate change. Not only can group therapy provide a space where children, tweens, and teens can build powerful peer relationships, it is also an affordable way to supplement individual therapy. While group therapy may provide children who are not currently seeing a therapist with the help they need, it is not a replacement for individual counseling. Anyone who signs up for a group but is not an established client at Kalamazoo Child and Family Counseling must first schedule an intake. There is information below about how to do that.

Group counseling can be a wonderful way for children, tweens, and teens to learn and practice new coping skills or have a safe place to share their experiences, while also offering kids the opportunity to practice social skills, face social anxiety, share goals, praise, and support one another. Group counseling also provides an opportunity for kids to hold each other responsible for mental health goals that they are working towards.

If you’ve been curious about therapy groups, or your child or teen has been in therapy for a long time, and you’re not seeing the results you’d like, groups may be just the extra boost they need. Kalamazoo Child and Family Counseling offers affordable group counseling for children, tweens, and teens from Kalamazoo, Portage, Mattawan, and the surrounding area.
