Therapy for Children, Teens, and Families

Our therapists help children and families understand what is happening, develop practical skills, strengthen relationships, and find more shared joy.

- Trauma and PTSD: Evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who have experienced traumatic or highly stressful events.
- Behavioral Challenges: Helping families address challenging behavior while strengthening communication and parent-child relationships.
- Grief and Loss: Supporting children and families as they cope with death, separation, significant changes, and other losses.
- Family and Relationship Concerns: Helping family members improve communication, navigate conflict, and strengthen relationships.
- Emotional Regulation: Helping children and teens understand and manage intense emotions.
- Parenting Support: Giving parents practical strategies for responding to their child’s emotional and behavioral needs.
Therapy Designed for Children and Families
Children are not simply smaller adults. Effective therapy considers a child’s age, development, relationships, family, individual strengths, and unique needs.
Depending on your child’s needs, treatment may include individual therapy, family therapy, caregiver involvement, play-based approaches, skills development, and evidence-based treatments designed specifically for children and adolescents.
Our services include approaches such as:
- Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
- Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for Teens
- Play Therapy and Play-Based Interventions
- Family Therapy
- Teletherapy for Families Located in Michigan
Treatment recommendations are individualized for each child and family.
When Weekly Therapy Is Not Enough
Some teens need more support than traditional weekly therapy can provide. Our Adolescent DBT Intensive Outpatient Program provides structured treatment for teens ages 13–18 while allowing them to continue living at home and attend school.
In-Person Therapy and Teletherapy
We provide in-person therapy at our Kalamazoo office for children, teens, and families from Kalamazoo, Portage, Mattawan, Battle Creek, and other Southwest Michigan communities.
Teletherapy may also be available for clients located anywhere in Michigan, depending on clinical appropriateness, provider availability, and insurance coverage.
