Aaron Henry, MA, LLPC
Aaron Henry is passionate about working with children, teens, and families experiencing emotional, relational, behavioral, and life challenges. He understands the importance of creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where young people can share their experiences and explore their emotions.
Aaron believes children and teens bring important expertise about their own experiences to therapy. He works to build meaningful therapeutic relationships where young people feel seen, heard, and respected while developing skills to navigate challenges in their lives.
About Aaron Henry
Aaron graduated from Western Michigan University with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. He has experience providing school-based therapy and working with children and adolescents from a variety of backgrounds.
Cultural humility is an important part of Aaron’s approach. He strives to understand each child and family within the context of their individual experiences, identities, relationships, and communities.
Therapy for Children and Teens
Aaron has experience working with children and adolescents experiencing concerns including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Trauma and post-traumatic stress
- Social and emotional difficulties
- Behavioral and conduct concerns
- Suicidal ideation
- Relationship difficulties
- Emotional regulation difficulties
Aaron emphasizes evidence-based practices while adapting therapy to the developmental needs and experiences of each child or teen.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Aaron is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who have experienced trauma.
TF-CBT can help young people and their caregivers better understand trauma reactions, develop coping and emotional-regulation skills, and process traumatic experiences in a structured and developmentally appropriate way.
DBT and Play-Based Approaches
Aaron has experience working with teenagers using skills and strategies from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT skills can help adolescents develop mindfulness, emotional-regulation, distress-tolerance, and interpersonal skills.
Aaron also has additional training in directive and nondirective play-based approaches. Play can provide children with a developmentally appropriate way to communicate, explore experiences, practice skills, and express emotions that may be difficult to put into words.
A Creative Approach to Therapy
Outside of his clinical work, Aaron enjoys woodworking and creates handcrafted furniture and wooden fidgets designed for regulation. His creative work requires patience, attention, mindfulness, and an appreciation for the individual qualities of each piece—perspectives that also influence his approach to working with children and teens.
