Professional Counselor / Therapist
License #: 6451025149

Nancy Ablao provides individual counseling for children experiencing anxiety, anger, grief and loss, friendship difficulties, family changes, and school-related concerns. She creates a safe, warm, and welcoming environment where children can identify their emotions, express themselves, and develop practical skills through play, engaging activities, and conversation.

Before becoming a counselor, Nancy spent more than 30 years working with children as an educator and school counselor. Her extensive experience in schools gives her a strong understanding of the social, emotional, and academic challenges children may face. She helps children build a personalized set of tools for managing everyday stress, navigating peer conflict, strengthening friendships, and coping with difficult emotions.

Nancy believes that strong therapeutic relationships help children feel comfortable learning and growing. She uses games and activities to foster connection while incorporating evidence-based practices tailored to each child’s developmental needs. Her warmth, creativity, and genuine care allow her to build meaningful relationships with children while maintaining open communication with their families.

Nancy also has experience co-facilitating grief and loss groups for young children through Hospice of Southwest Michigan. She has extensive training in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), school-based crisis debriefing, and trauma-informed care. Nancy is also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
